When picking up the the book, “Fargo Rock City”, one might just asume that it is about farm life just by looking at the cover. The cover has a picture of a cow on it and one would not think that it has any relation to heavy metal music. But, as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover, because that is what this book is about. “Fargo Rock City” is exactly about heavy metal music. The book is written by Chuck Klosterman who grew up in rural North Dakota.
On Saturday, April 15 every major league player shall wear a special, retired number which nobody wears anymore. It is 42 in tribute to the late Jackie Robinson who became the first black player in the big leagues on the same date 70 years ago. Robinson is celebrated as the breaker of the color barrier, one of the best baseball players of his generation, fittingly a legendary figure, and a gentleman. He was an innovator, and the name Branch Rickey the devoutly Christian and highly successful executive who signed him to a contract and nurtured his early playing career is seemingly etched in history along with Robinson.
His research led him to write the, Apostles of Disunion,
The end of 1776 found the American people in a crisis. War was raging between Britain under General Howe, and America under General Washington. Howe had already won several battles and was heading for another victory at Trenton. Members of Congress fled from Philadelphia and reestablished themselves in York. The citizens of America were fearful, confused, and everything seemed to be in chaos.
Everything is Not What it Seems Paul Revere is a well known American hero known for warning the colonists about the British’s arrival. But is he the “hero” that everybody seems to know? When analyzing two texts, you can see the major differences in perspective that people have.
One of the biggest issues he had to deal with was the excommunication of Fr. Leonard Feeney. The excommunication was due to his false interpretation of the Catholic doctrine. He was informing people there was no salvation outside the Church. Feeney stuck his ground on the matter for a while but eventually died.
Pacifism is a major part of the tradition, and Catholics must follow in the footsteps of Berrigan. However, like most things, too much of anything can be a problem. His life is a contribution to the tradition because of the example he set. Though, not every Catholic can live an extreme life like Berrigan. Furthermore, if every Catholic broke the law like Daniel, there would be anarchy.
In Gary Gerstle’s historical monograph called American Crucible: Race and Nation in the Twentieth Century, he attempts to prove that the rooseveltian nation is a contradiction of civic and racial nations. A civic nation seeks to include anyone who shares the same value to the “promise of economic opportunity and political freedom to all citizens, irrespective of their racial, religious, or cultural background” (7). While civic nationalism seeks to include, racial nationalism seeks to exclude those who are not “held together by common blood and skin color and inherited fitness for self-government” (4). The nation of Theodore Roosevelt, rooseveltian, believes in “political and social equality for all irrespective of race, ethnicity, or nationality
Throughout their lifetime, a person’s actions not only illustrate their character, but more importantly dictate what sort of legacy they will leave behind. John Milton Chivington’s true legacy is still a debatable controversy because of his contradictory actions during his lifetime. Known to be a powerful minister and war hero, yet simultaneously considered to be the cold-blooded and murderous leader of the Sand Creek Massacre, it is difficult to pinpoint the true disposition of his legacy. Originally one of strength, bravery and persistence, Chivington’s legacy was sadly tainted by the gruesome murder of innocent men, women and children in the Sand Creek Massacre. Although he was a powerful minister and military leader, the weight of his

“Experience, which destroys innocence, also leads one back to it” (James Arthur Baldwin). In the novel Stonewall’s Gold written by Robert J. Baruch is very well traveled and has knowledge about the world, which you would not expect from a religious person, most people would think majority are more close minded. He showed cultural diversity and broke the stereotypes of being a learned and cultured man, both him and his wife are professionals, he is an educator and runs an all girls school. He broke all contacts towards thinking that all religious people are judgmental towards everyone unlike them, as well as they are more open to women 's roles and rights than most people think, such as that his wife runs a company, and is not subjugated. Without the constructs of religiosity as interpreted by orthodoxy, someone can still become a modern individual that can maintain religious doctrine as well as live in a worldly
Justin Martyr – Christian Apologist Barnard acclaimed Justin to be the “the first thinker after Saint Paul to grasp the universalistic element in Christianity,” and described his accomplishment as “the seedbed of the later Church” (as cited by Kesich, 1998, p. 97). This presentation will consider the life and theology of Justin Martyr, its importance for future theological development, and finally the applicability and impact in ministry today. Augustine of Hippo was a Christian philosopher who played a big part and impacted Christianity greatly. Augustine helped Christianity by helping the Church by finding answers to questions that could have damaged the Church if they went unanswered. He explained to the Church original sin, the Trinity, and clarified the concept of predestination. Augustine was the bishop in the city of Hippo located in North Africa. He was the son of the famous Saint Monica, but despite his mother being a devout Christian his father believed in paganism.
These people were tremendously diverse, but each one had unique way of making a difference. Some of these people include Constantine the Great, who was the emperor of the Romans. Another person who helped construct and aid in the expansion of the religion was the Apostle Paul, a Roman born missionary who preached his ideas amongst others.
