One legendary claim, made about John Henry, was that he could drive steel with a hammer in each hand. I believe this statement is not true. One reason, this could not be factual, because steel drivers used sledgehammers that were about twenty pounds. That means that he was able to just pick it up and start banging the steel, but it took a lot of arm strength to do so, therefore you would need both hands to use a sledgehammer. Also, to use a sledgehammer as a steel driver you have to swing your arms and slam down on these huge spikes/nails that needed to be put in to keep the railroad in place. So, he would not be able to do this, because he would have twenty pounds in each of his hands and it would be a struggle to swing 20 pounds in a circular
