“Conquering the Freshman Fear of Failure” an article written by David L Kirp is a piece that illustrates the link between fear and doing bad in school. David Kirp writes about the psychological result of giving students an environment where they will set themselves up for failure. He tries to promote the scientific study where it mentions that intellect and genetics have very little correlation. Kirp believes when you put students in a discouraging environment and plant failure in their minds, nothing can be achieved. He grabs his audience’s attention by channelling into their sympathy and bringing credibility to his argument.
He believed one should listen and learn before trying to direct or change things. He believes in helping employees realize their dreams, not promotions. Live your brand. Be an evangelist for what you stand for or for your organization. Be authentic, you can’t face whatever the current trend is if it’s not you, because it might work for a while but will not be sustainable on the long run.

You need to be able to communicate your ideas to them and not only that, but be able to talk to them and have a decent human conversation. They need to know the more talkative side of their leader. Joe showed his communication skills by actually going out and getting to know everyone in his small town. “Go fetch me de checker-board and de checkers. Sam Watson, you’se my fish.”
John B Watson was born 1878, in South Carolina, with an extremely religious mother and a completely opposite father. His father was known to drink heavily and had several affairs; when Watson was 13 his father ran away with another woman. Only after Watson was rich and famous did his father try to make contact with him and Watson refused because he was resentful towards him. “But like his father he became heavily attached to bourbon and he freely transgressed his marriage. Watson had affairs with many women” (Karier, 1986, p.133).

In today 's world, the freedom to show emotions is what connects people. Brene Brown, a researcher at the University of Houston, studies human connection. She has come to conclusion that people who show their true feelings and broadcast their honest self, are better equipped to connect with others (Brown). By presenting one 's true, bona fide emotions, people are received as relatable and therefore connect with others. In order to have human connection, there must be the freedom to express emotion.
When reading stories of great leaders like Jesus, Gandhi, and Mandela we come across breathtaking messages. The message sent is one of selflessness, the selflessness of leaders. These trailblazers teach us to pack up all personal emotion, bias, and ego and think of the greater good. Whether that is for the greater good of a project, company or even a nation; try to see the big picture. Virgil’s Book IV of the Aeneid: The Passion of the Queen.
The best example of using a speech to exercise leadership is the President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Voting Rights speech. President Johnson set leadership by addressing publicly and broadcasting in TV pressure against Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. As Professor Witherspoon explained, this speech is an example of interdependence of leadership and communication. President Johnson’s speech led to the change of African American voting rights. Our text indicates the special form of human communication when it comes to leadership to be: who you are, act, do, and how you work with others.

However, while according to different authors, “It’s true that no amount of training or practice will turn you into Churchill or Martin Luther King Jr.”, the charismatic training “can make you more charismatic in the eyes of your followers, and that will invariably make you a more effective leader.” (Antonakis, Fenley, & Liechti, 2012) Conclusion If you add up all the basic properties of charisma, the main factors are the following: the ability of the leader to stand out from the crowd, emphasizing its uniqueness, unity of the followers, and finally, to the loyalty of the masses to the leader. Despite the exclusivity of the leader and his difference from the masses, they must have something in common that unites them: it may be a common enemy,
About four years ago I participated in a religious retreat in which consisted of interacting with people from all over Mexico; the experience made a significant impact in my life and changed my view on the importance of relationship building and leadership.
