The way religion plays a role in society is quite important; it is what divides man from beast. Religion is absolutely vital to modern society as it determines the norms by which a society should operate. Here in America, even though there are many religions within the nation, Christian ideologies are what have kept peace. We all understand that to take a life or to steal is a sin and should be punished. There are societies where their religion allows them to take the life of someone for no other reason other than personal request. The religions in these other countries allow for that and therefore, it is their "norm".

John Milton was born in 1609 in London, England during a period in which the church was the primary influence on society. Milton despised the idea of the church having such power in government and spoke out against it strongly. Milton is considered one of the highest educated poets of all time. After receiving his bachelor of arts he went on to get his master of arts. Being fluent in Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and Italian quite a few of his poems were either written in these languages or were intertwined with quotes from them. This mix of language is why his poems were thought to be wise, because he was knowledgeable of so many different cultures. He then finds one of his close friends, and they make their way out of the hot burning land and go to a nearby plain, this is where they have their gathering of all of the fallen angles.
