John Steinbeck was one of the many great American authors. His work was best remembered about the Great Depression. Steinbeck had many difficult challenges that he accomplished and received achievements. Publishers rejected his work, but Steinbeck didn’t give up he kept working hard. Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath dealt with the hardship and American’s difficult time surviving the Great Depression. Both have become a classic literature novel. But unfortunately, Of Mice and Men, and The Grapes of Wrath are often on the commonly banned book lists (Pettinger). After Of Mice and Men was published the first period of Steinbeck literary career came to an end. The book is a “fictionalized play” which is the last form that he had been struggling with. The book was so thought out that in 1940 it received a Pulitzer Prize, which is “an award for achievement in American journalism.” President Franklin D. Roosevelt thought it was a such a powerful message that he personally met Steinbeck, after a letter was written by Steinbeck about “the German influence in Mexico.” The Grapes of Wrath sold 10,000 copies per week.
