Malachi 3:1 says, "I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me”. John the Baptist was known for baptizing people in the Jordan River and given so to Matthew 3:6 would only do so after they had repented and confessed their sins. Therefore, his name itself implies that John baptized people, although John's life had much more significance than an entrance into heaven.
