Johnny Cash was a big drug user, but was still a good person. He was traumatized even from youth causing him to go down a bad life path. If he hadn’t gotten into his massive fame he likely would’ve avoided this though, and he was still a strong Christian in his house. Seeing all this and how Johnny did drugs, the drugs didn’t make him a bad person. Young Johnny Cash was born in 1932 to Carrie Rivers and Roy Cash (Dolan 125). He was never the favorite child. His father loved Johnny’s brother, who wanted to be a preacher (Walk The Line). Johnny Cash left his home to go to the air force. While in the air force he came upon the inspiration for “Folsom Prison Blues” (Walk The Line). After three years he was honorably discharged (Dolan 124). When he came home he impressed Philips, the owner of Sun Records, with his eagerness, but Philips couldn’t come back to see Johnny and his band in to play (Hilburn 66). After one recording session Johnny was told that he and his band needed a name. They discovered it when they went to play gospel for a church group. The name ended up being: “Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three” (Hilburn 73). Don’t think everything came easy though, for example “Your Gonna Cry, Cry, Cry” took 35 takes (Hilburn 24). The band eventually finished that troublesome song eventually and the others on the album. Of these songs “Hey Porter” was the big one even though his later famous “Folsom Prison Blues was also part of this album (Hilburn 77).
