Johnny Cash is to country music as candy is to children. Even though it has been many years since he made music, people still see him as a country music idol. Cash turned around many people’s views on country music, won 11 Grammys, and was inducted into the Songwriters, Rock and Roll, and Country Music Hall of Fame, making him one of the greatest musicians of our time. Johnny was influenced greatly by his family as a child. In the Cash family, when things got tough, they all joined in to sing gospel songs. It made them forget about all their troubles for just a little while. As a child, Johnny took great pleasure in singing with his mother (Neimark, 2007). Music was a big part of his childhood. One of Johnny Cash's many accomplishments was getting voted into three different halls of fame. He made it in the Songwriters, Country, and Rock and Roll hall of fame (Neimark, 2007). He was the only artist to ever get inducted into three halls of fame at that time. Johnny was also honored by the J.F.K Center for Performing Arts in 1996, and in 1994 he went to Carnegie Hall with his daughter (Neimark, 2007). Carnegie Hall was a very popular place for musicians to perform. After he finally gave up drugs, Cash finally was the good husband and father he wanted to be. Receiving 11 Grammys and making almost 70 albums, he was what every kid wanted to be (Neimark, 2007). Johnny Cash became a legend. Everyone would remember his unique music. Out of the 1,500 songs he wrote, 52 made the Top Ten, While 137 made it on the Billboard's Country Charts (Neimark, 2007). After recording 77 songs with Rick Rubin, Johnny's record label came out with a set of 5 CDs that included a book (Willett, 2011).
