The Education of Dasmine Cathey “The Education of Dasmine Cathey,” by Brad Wolverton is an informative and compelling story about a student athlete who struggles with making educated choices that he is not familiar with in life, college, and football. There are so many reasons young college athletes succeed in sports, but fail in education. This story is a tragic tale of educational shortfalls that caused Mr. Cathey a football player to fall through the cracks of a flawed school system and became exploited by his family, friends and the college football program. These challenges during these times, created unwanted side effects in every aspect of his life. This is a great story because the author allowed the reader to feel every emotion
In his career he had some things that molded him to his character. He realised that he wanted to be a football player when he was in High School, but he worked twice as hard in college. And after college he was drafted to the Atlanta Falcons and that when he joined the NFL. “You know I’ve had my ups and downs.” Is another quote from Brett Favre.
Every year individuals from all across the United States makes the decision on whether or not they will try out for an interscholastic athletic team. These individuals hope to be part of something special, whether it’s achieving individual goals or team goals. They also understand they will need to sacrifice time, energy, and their social life in order to achieve these goals. When tryouts begin these individuals hope their skills and abilities will get them recognized by not only the coaches, but the returning players as well. A problem arises though once try outs are over and the team is announced.
In “Do Sports Build Character or Damage it?” Mark Edmundson explains the pros and cons of children who grow up playing football. Firstly, he believes the perseverance it takes to show up for hard practices is useful later in life. Especially when they get frustrated with something and don’t notice the little bits of progress they are making.
This young man got three rejections from the University of Notre Dame, but he still stayed optimistic and full of hope. It wasn’t until his fourth attempt, which was his final year of transfer eligibility, that he got accepted to this prestigious university. Once accomplishing one of his dreams, he was onto the next in just short matter of time. Joining the Fighting Irish Football team.
The article, “CJ2K:The Hard Way” written by Alan Shipnuck. The article is inherently about Chris Johnson (a famous football player for the Arizona Cardinals). Starting, about his old problems with his team and children and how he got through it in a full-hearty way. Later on, it talks about how he practices countlessly and on how he always tries to score so high leading to his goal to have to make a rush for 2,000 yards (which is a gigantic goal in football). Which you can see that he is determined to do great (in football), and that he will not do arrogant things when in trouble.
Imagine what would it be like to grow up on a farm with two brothers, travel to the philippines, win the Heisman Trophy, be like a lion on the college football field:) and become a quarterback in the NFL, well that is exactly what Tim Tebow has done. This book talked about his early childhood, his highschool years, and his journey to the NFL and what he did when he got there. In this journal I will be questioning, predicting, and connecting. First, I was wondering why Tim Tebow decided to play football over baseball?
For example, Arian made the most out of his opportunity. JockBio describes he was finally on the active roster due to injuries. Then on the last game of the season he got his chance to start. With his first start Arian had 119 yards and two touchdowns against the New England Patriots. Another example, Foster was not going to stop.
Have you ever seen a football game and wondered how the players got there? Michael Oher is a person who had many problems during his lifetime. How he overcame these problems is what made him a very special person. In Michael's case it was a story with many ups and downs which eventually ended with him becoming a football player. My essay is about the hardships faced by Michael Oher and how he overcame them to become one of the great offensive lineman in the NFL.
I am doing a debate on whether or not football punters deserve more credit than they get. I think the punters definitely deserve more credit they are always overlooked and they do the same amount of practice as the rest of the football team. i think that punters are overlooked in football because they just play when they punt and to score a field goal. what most people don 't consider is that they practice with everybody else they are also on the field as much as some of the players.
Imagine doing hard labor every day without getting paid. Imagine not being able to recover fully from a traumatic injury and being overcome with medical bills. This happened to many athletes, but one that stands out is Inky Johnson. Inky Johnson was a star football player for Tennessee. He was guaranteed to be in the top thirty of the NFL draft pick in 2006.
His “sharply split opinions” signaled to the audience that his essay could go either way. By starting off with his primary research, he gained the reader’s attention enough that he or she would continue reading, despite their own opinions on the topic. His purpose for writing was driven by his numerous ordinary, but detrimental, experiences with college athletes as a student and as an educator. One sentence that reveals his purpose is, “It’s sad to see bright young athletes knowingly compromise their potential and settle for much less education than they deserve.”
For example, cornerback Eric Lee’s looked the part of a college-level athlete since he arrived. However, since this season’s defensive backfield had enough secondary members to stuff Noah’s Ark, a snug redshirt was placed on Lee. Now he can be let loose and Nebraska’s coaches can see just how far apart he is from Chris Jones, Joshua Kalu and Trai Mosley. We may very well be discussing one of next year’s starters-to-be.
When I first signed up for sports communications the last thing I thought I’d be doing was not only meeting people like Mike Breen, Jim O’Connell, Steven Sheer, and Joe Yanarell, but speaking to them on a first hand basis and getting to know about their line of work. Each and every speaker not only told us about their line of work but told us about their stories on how they got to where they are and why try fell in love with what they do along the way. The three speakers that stood out to me the most were Mike Breen, Jim O’Connell, and Steven Sheer, but I would like to quote Joe Yanarell on a couple statements that seem to fit into each and every one of these men’s stories. First off, Mr. Yanarell said “you are going to fail and learn from it.” This quote goes a long way
Do you believe that you feel like your life is being controlled by someone, when you sail on a boat, feel winds push you down, or when it 's raining on your favorite day? Greeks believed this is happening by gods and goddesses controlling everyday life. Hephaestus had a large family, an ugly and lame appearance, and only one celebration for him. Greek gods are known as the belief of the greeks. Greeks believed that apollo made shadows.
