The Changing of People and Countries Johnny Lyte Tremain is a young boy in the story who loses his mother at a young age and ends up living with the laphams, along with his two younger brothers Dusty, and Dove. The three brothers do not like each other very much because Dove is jealous of Johnny’s skills and his craftsmanship in silversmithing. Johnny also bullies Dusty and Dove because they are both not as good as Johnny and he makes fun of them for not being as good as him. After so long of not having a job and living with the laphams, they eventually kick him out because they can no longer support him. The British had been collecting money from the Americans through taxes. The Americans did not like the idea of being taxed and they started to rebel against the British because of this. America then decided that they did not want to be under the control of the British, so they decided to rebel by dumping the tea into the harbor to protest against them.
