Charles Perkins played a major role in the Freedom Ride in order to shape Australian society from the 1960’s onwards. His key role in the Freedom Ride allowed him to successfully advocate for the desegregation of Australian institutions and towns as well as to reduce the amount of discrimination against Indigenous Australians. He endeavoured to make a change in Australian society, and wanted to expose the true nature of discrimination and segregation against Indigenous Australians. He wanted to gain the rights and freedom for his people, and effectively achieved those goals. Therefore, Charles Perkins did play a major role in the Freedom Ride from the 1960’s onwards, resulting in the improvement of Australian society.

In the science fotion novel The 5th Wave, aliens invade the earth, bringing death and destruction in five well orginized waves. Unbeknownst to many Americans, the Bataan Death March was one of the most horrific wartime experiences for American and Filipino soldiers. The Japanese forcibly marched an astounding estimated 75,000 Prisoners of War (POWs) in what became known as the Bataan Death March. (Tokudome) Many prisoners perished along the way or in POW camps because of the horrible conditions. Not to mention, the cold brutality with which the Japanese soldiers killed the POWs. The Bataan Death March is a callous example of the abuse and death that American and Filipino POWs faced at the hands of the Japanese.
The Enlightening “They died with only one thought in their minds and that was I want to live I want to live I want to live.” In the 1939 book “Johnny Got His Gun” by Dalton Trumbo, the main character Joe Bonham was drafted into World War 1. During the war Joe’s trench, along with almost everything inside, was terminated. Joe suffered the tragic loss of both legs, arms and all five of his senses from the shell. Joe understands first hand that in the moment of death the single thought racing through his broken and destroyed body is “I want to live”.

Even though Johnny Cash’s legacy is full of fame and fortune, he struggled with a drug and alcohol addiction for much of his career. A.J. Samuels, a writer for theculturetrip.com, claims that as Johnny Cash’s fame rose, so did his dependency on alcohol and amphetamines, which he started taking so he would be able to stay awake during his tours. Because of this, his performances would be extremely errotic, to the point where he would be stumbling and smashing things on stage. In 1955, Johnny and June Carter met and performed together on stage multiple times. The two of them had a love affair, while he was still married to his first bride Vivian, and the two fell madly in love.

Johnny is a Christ-like figure because he sacrificed himself to save children from a fire; Johnny also contributes to the a theme of the book: appearances aren’t everything; lastly he serves to teach Ponyboy about the world though his actions and words. Johnny is a Christ-like figure for saving kids from a burning building. Evidence is shown in this quote—“Johnny yelled, ‘shut up! We’re goin’ to get you out!’”
