Jonas’s viewpoint changes over the course of the book. At first he just goes with the flow and tries to fit in. Later in the book his view changes when the current Receiver of Information gives him the memories. The final way that his viewpoint changes is when he gets to learn more and more about the memories he begins to wonder about the outside world and eventually escapes with Gabriel.

In the beginning Jonas´s viewpoint is as everybody else's, follow the rules and you will get accepted and unpunished. You also have to have consent in order to fit into this boring and uncolored community. His viewpoint is like this because he is afraid of being “released”. His viewpoint changes from “follow the rules and you won’t be punished” to “how have I been living like this my whole life¨. Every day he goes back and learn more fragments from his past. This new perspective caused a lot of damage to the people around him. His family tries to nudge him to stay, but he doesn't listen and continues to collect memories and thinks about departing the wretched community. Especially the people around him.
