SINNERS RHETORICAL ANALYSIS ESSAY On July 8th 1741, Jonathan Edwards delivered a sermon to an audience of puritans,Unbelievers and sinners. Edwards persuades the audience to give their lives to God. With the use of metaphor and personification. Edwards is able to deliver a critically acclaimed speech to his audience to convince them to follow the righteous path. Edwards begins his speech by emphasizing on how people in the audience have drifted away from God and how angry God is at most of them . He uses the personification ‘’their damnation does not slumber.., the furnace is now hot and ready to receive them” to create a feeling of fear in the audience by warning them that God will condemn them to hell.
