I am very familiar with this tragic event that occurred December 26, 1996 in the Ramsey household. JonBenet Ramsey was located in her basement home where her father John, her mother Patsy and brother Burke also lived. Before her lifeless body was discovered Patsy found a ransom note in the home demanding a large sum of money. It was shown that JonBenet’s skull was fractured, she had been strangled and molested. There was blood located in JonBenet’s underwear that did not belong to her. There was also fiber located on the adhesive side of the tape that matched fiber from her mother. (2015) Fibers located inside JonBenet’s underwear belonged to her father John. (2015)

It was not until months later that their actual statement was taken. It was 8 hours after the parents discovered the ransom note that she was found in the basement. The ransom note was from a notepad in the home which tells you either the suspect lived there or was extremely comfortable in the home. Whoever committed this crime had to have had access to JonBenet prior to her going to bed. (2015) The gathering of evidence seemed to be tainted due to not securing the crime scene. “Overtime, the police continued to investigate DNA, including taking advantage of advances in the science and methodology.” (Saferstein, 2015 p.399). A false confessor John Karr, admitted to killing JonBenet in a sexual fantasy but was later exonerated and released due to DNA evidence not placing him at the scene of the crime and he also had a sealed tight alibi placing him elsewhere. It is believed that DNA may have been added to the crime scene from the crime scene investigators or even the lab techs. Furthermore, it’s possible DNA was tainted during the autopsy. Over time with advances in science touch DNA was introduced. Touch DNA was the ability to scrape the surface without having any
