The story of Abraham tells of a covenant with God. In the story, God tells Abraham that they are the chosen people. Because the early Jews rarely had a homeland, their culture and customs developed before their nationality. Examples of some of their customs are, Their own language (Hebrew), Their own food customs (kosher), No marrying anyone outside of their race, No syncretism of other beliefs which is aided by being Monotheistic (believing in one god only), No seeking to convert others into your faith, Because of all these customs the Jews stayed pure in which there was no one in the faith who was married or converted into being
Abraham is considered the father of the Israelite people, because he made a covenant with God stating that Abraham shall be the father of a multitude of nations, and that Abraham and his descendants after him shall keep this everlasting covenant alive. Another important person was Moses, who renewed God’s covenant with the Israelites and was given the Ten Commandments through God. The Ten Commandments is a set of laws that God gave to Moses. The laws stress religion and moral codes, such as “You shall not Steal.” Supposedly, a famine forced many of the Israelites out of their “promised land,”
Human nature is an underlying theme of the Bible, as we are shown time and time again when God destroys large groups of people, sometimes even everyone, it is because of our inherently corrupt human nature. While the idea of original sin is a Catholic one, it seems that without Gods laws and influence humans descend into hedonism and chaos, which means that humanity needs his laws to prevent that. God walks a fine line between being the strict lawmaker, but also creating laws that take into consideration human nature. In Exodus 32 we read about the creation of the Golden Calf and descent of the Israelites down the path of idolatry, which Moses warned them was a great sin against God. Moses reasons with God, and is able convince him that he should not destroy his chosen people, and
The Israelites broke their covenant with God and they had to be punished for it, in the form of other tribes taking over and having full control over the land to learn obey the covenant. For some reason in every story in the book of Judges they are saved by having someone becoming the leader for them and they go to war to regain their power and land but, every time they regain it back they yet again disobey god and worshipping another idol and doing whatever they want to do. Then they call on God to come and save them and every time God comes and saves them through a leader. by having a war against the other tribes.
Like many other articles that are for the death penalty, Jeff Jacob also believes the death penalty can saves lives. Jacob attacks the idea, of many men who are sentenced to death who are later found guilty. Jacob says that the death penalty is the most acurate system in the court. Believeing that proganda has taken over peoples own thoughts. Those who once supported it, fear to support the death penalty because it might lead to the miscarriage of justice.
God also gave a set of rules that they have to live by, the 613 Commandments. This covenant was made to all Jews as a whole, and all through Jewish history is their attempts to make the world a good and equal society. The second covenant was the beginning of Judaism as a structured religion. With the directing of God, Jewish became a powerful group with people like David and
