Journal Entry 4 Something interesting about this class was that I was able to explore my past relationship more in depth as the concepts were introduced in this class. Two of the relations that I think gives me a learning experience include my relationship with my parents and my past relationship. After coming to the US, it was my very first time for me to date someone. I always wondered what made it possible for me to get into this relationship as I was never given freedom to date someone especially someone from a different religion and culture. We started seeing each other after taking a class and doing some activities together during our first year of college. We got closer as we met often. In the class we discussed that education is the strongest correlation for similarity. And, I personally believe this. One of the reason that I value this is because as a first generation student, I have seen a lot of gaps especially how both of my parents have a contrasting opinion about education. Thus, I would strongly prefer someone who has a similar or higher level of education as me. Besides the propinquity effect, the reciprocity effect compliments for those who likes being encouraged and keep up with their good work. In my opinion, it is one of the significant thing that I really appreciate in my life. As I have been living abroad for a while, my peers here in Portland are those who have a warm affection and acceptance. And, I think for any relation it is a crucial thing as it is a two way process i.e. to give and take. Other than the theories, there were few things in the class that we discussed was pretty funny and seemed something that I would experiment. The first one is about the hot drinks and how it affects a meeting. After learning that hot drinks influence how likeable one is, I think that it is very interesting how it all works together. As a regular coffee drinker, I think that a sip of coffee changes one’s mood. And, I am curious to observe this effect more. While we discussed about the similarity aspect of attractiveness, I personally do not like being similar in terms of age, race, religion, attitudes, values, and
