There are a bountiful of different characters that struggle with the conflict of witchcraft. Even the minor characters also struggle with it, because the major characters draw in the minor characters. In The Crucible, several major characters get drawn towards the idea of witchcraft, when in reality they aren’t but people say they are. The community plays an enormous factor in influencing the people condemned by witchcraft. Most of all in this play, the major characters make the play into what it’s meant to be. She has been trying to get everyone she hates condemned of witchcraft, even if they have no ties to it. The one person she absolutely hates is Elizabeth Proctor. All Abigail ever wanted, was to be with John Proctor. The conflict mostly started when John and Abigail had an affair. From this, this leads to Abigail wanting Elizabeth gone so she could be with John so she guilt-trips him by saying, “You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!” (Miller 1139) Once this started, Abigail started making false accusations about Elizabeth to try and get her in jail or even killed so she could be with John. Once John told Abigail that he didn’t want to be with her, he told everyone of the court by saying, “Abigail is a whore!” (Miller 1206) This whole plan ultimately fails because John is the one who ends up being hanged, and this forces Abigail to leave town because the town has rejected her from all the lying she has done to people. This whole conflict is an example of an external conflict between Abigail and Elizabeth in The Crucible. It was a brawl to see who wanted it more and who deserved what happened to them. In this case, Abigail got what she deserved, but on the other hand, Elizabeth did not deserve to lose her husband over it. No one won in this case and wasn’t resolved in a very good way, it ended up involving many people getting killed and hurt from all
