Second thing about Prometheus is — he betrayed his people (Titans) by helping Zeus during the war ( Olympians VS. Titans). In the first few sentences, I wrote the Prometheus stole fire form Zeus right? Why? It’s because he loves his creations.
As one version of the myth goes, Prometheus and his brother Epimetheus were punished for not fighting alongside the Titans and were sent down to earth and given the task of creating man and protecting him. Prometheus gifted man fire and allowed him to stand upright like the gods. In a food sacrificing ritual to the gods, Zeus was tricked by Prometheus, which angered him very much. As punishment, he took fire from man and returned it to the heavens. Prometheus, who loved man dearly, defiantly climbed back up to the heavens and stole fire to return it to man.
Theogony was a myth that addressed the connection between human beings to the Gods and the universe. Giving that Hesiod lived during the Iron age ( 750-650 B.C.) alongside Homer, it is not extraordinary that the two shared similar religious views. Keeping that in mind, he was able to offer his interpretation of how the world came into existence in his epic poem the Theogony. While creating Prometheus’ myth, he focused on the ominous interactions between Zeus and Prometheus that lead to abhorrent events such as the creation of Pandora. The Myth of Prometheus follows a conflict between Zeus, who is selfish, and does not want to gift fire to the people because it would give them a better chance of becoming as powerful as Gods, and Prometheus, who sees the value of all of the learning and growth fire could inspire for the people. He understood that assisting others could be beneficial, and as a god it did not always need to be about remaining so superior to mortals. In the end Prometheus gives the people fire, and sees the great benefit it has for them. “It was not long until they learned to cook their food and so to eat like men instead of like beasts. In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley there are many allusions. One of the main allusions was to a mythical character named Prometheus. The subtitle of the book is called, The modern Prometheus which is a reference to the Greek Titan Prometheus. Prometheus was a god of forethought and was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. After he created the man out of clay Athena would breath life into it.
In the Greek age zeus and prometheus would fight about giving humans intelligence. Zeus feared about giving them intelligence because it would bring lots of harm which would not be good for them. On the other hand prometheus thought that if he gave them intelligence then they would use that intelligence for good. There's evidence on why prometheus is correct about his theory about giving humans intelligence and that it would bring more good than harm . These female leaders all possessed important characteristics that helped them achieve their goals; intelligence, courage, and responsibility. Widely known by most of the world, Joan of Arc, Heroine of France, was a warrior/military leader who helped France win a losing battle to England.
Prometheus’ gift to humanity, fire, also has its own significance in the book. During one of the monster’s first few days in the wilderness, he discovers the dual nature of fire, “One day, when I was oppressed by cold, I found a fire which had been left by some wandering beggars, and was overcome with delight at the warmth I experienced from it. In my joy I thrust my hand into the live embers, but quickly drew it out again with a cry of pain. How strange, I thought, that the same cause should produce such opposite effects” (Shelly 72). The monster discovers that fire brings both warmth and pain.
I hope to leave the reader with a deeper sense of understanding on how literature can inspire the future generations in ways we don 't yet know. It was written in Greek mythology that, the titan Prometheus was a wise craftsman who taught humans many useful skills, including ‘navigation, writing, and architecture’. Prometheus, created humans by shaping clay into figures that looked like the gods. The gods admired these figures and ‘breathed life’ into them. Zeus disliked the ‘creatures’, but ‘he could not destroy them’.
