The attorneys-at-law that are defending Mr. Darnay but instead of defending him, they were listening to the sounds in their head of their own voices. The court is nothing more than mirrors in the hall. They actually have halls of mirrors, they would place humongous mirrors
A judge must meet many requirements before he/ she is able to judge in court. A judge must have a law degree, a Juris Doctorate, and a numerous amount of other tests and jobs before he/she becomes a judge. Comparing the requirements of a juror and judge, a judge is more qualified to make a fair
Danforth was not doing his job as a responsible judge, looking at evidence as a judge should, and acting with fairness and justice. Because he was not being a pure and just judge he allowed many people to be jailed and hung for no substantial reason. When Hale spoke of judging a man on evidence, Danforth said “I judge nothing… I have seen marvels in this court. I have seen people choked before my eyes by spirits; I have seen them stuck by pins and slashed by daggers I have... not the slightest reason to suspect that the children may be deceiving me” (95).
Mr. Giles Corey, one of the most upstanding members of our community, has been allegedly accused of withholding information from the official courts. He “...has six hundred acres, and timber in addition….” (Miller 1316). Mr. Giles Corey is over an astounding eighty years of age and in no condition whatsoever to be held in the jailhouse. His third wife in this lifetime, Goody Martha Corey, has been accused as a witch.
From a well educated background, his qualifications verify his interpretation to Martin Guerre’s case. Not only was he present for the trial, he was one of the ten judges overseeing the case. He was also a skilled lawyer and professor at a university. He
"Don 't judge a book by its cover" is a famous saying that some of us heard it before and some of us experienced it. 12 jurors were experiencing this quote when they gathered to decide whether a young boy is guilty by killing his father or not. Juror 2 stated, "Well, anyway, I think he was guilty" (6). Juror 2 represent most of us, as sometimes we judge from what we hear and not from what we see. The 12 jurors are from various backgrounds and each one has a distinctive personality.
He displays the tendency of an introverted Pragmatist with the Thinker preferences. Therefore, it takes him very long and requires several opinions laid out by other Jurors to change his mind from ‘guilty’ to ‘not guilty’. At the same time, he was firm and unafraid to stand up for himself once he changed his vote. He is sympathetic towards the boy as he grew up in the slum himself which caused him to disagree with Juror 3 numerous time. Therefore, his own upbringing in the slum makes him more knowledgeable about how the boy could have handled the switchblades and also the traits of living in the slum in
He seems in a way relatable to William Golding’s character, Simon, in The Lord of The Flies. Simon is seen as a sort of christ like figure, and while Juror 8 isn't anywhere near that level, he does seem to portray a sort of thoughtfulness and compassion that Simon does as well. All of the jurors are affected by peer pressure in different ways, and how they are effected is important to the
I also believe that people wanting to become a judge should have to as a requirement shadow a judge simply to gain experience on how to handle different cases. They must learn how to be a fair mediator when it comes to cases because if not then they will have a two against one situation, which is not good for a judge to be
AS the governor he is also the judge, he holds the fate of every person who walks into the courtroom in his hands. He is quoted saying. “ you must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road in between.” He with issuing that ultimatum stated that the people could not trust him to be fair or to be morally right. Danforth ignored the evidence of Giles Corey simply because it was not filed correctly, refused to take Mary Warren’s deposition, and had Giles arrested for disrupting court.
In the novel And Then There Were None, one of the most intriguing characters is Justice Wargrave. Wargrave is a very smart man, however he chooses to make the decisions for everyone on the island and the characters oblige. One example of a judger, from MBTI, is “Are product oriented (emphasis is on completing the task)” (P. Tieger; B. Tieger 4). For example, when Christie exemplifies this trait in the following quote “ It would be advisable, I think, if we met to discuss the situation…”
In the murder mystery And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie Judge Wargrave murders 9 people, not including himself, in order to punish those who escaped the law. I believe he acted justly because these people committed crimes and the law overlooked them. Another reason is that these people were not guilty about the crimes they committed.
In conclusion, Abigal Williams, Judge Danforth, and Reverand Hale are
A group of juror comprising of 12 men from diverse backgrounds began their early deliberations with 11 of ‘guilty’ and 1 of ‘not guilty’ verdicts. Juror 8 portrayed himself as a charismatic and high self-confident architect. Initially, Juror 1 who played the foreman positioned himself as self-appointed leader of the team in which has led his authority to be challenged as his leadership style lacked in drive and weak. In the contrary, Juror 8 is seen as the emergent leader considering his openness to probing conversations while remaining calm. Implying this openness to the present, it has become crucial that a good decision relies on knowledge, experience, thorough analysis and most importantly critical thinking.
He took his job as being the Foreman seriously by breaking up arguments and by making sure that everyone had a turn to speak. Despite having one of the hardest jobs in the jury, he remained civil and calm throughout the play. In the play “Twelve Angry Men” an argument between the jurors happens, the Physical Education Teacher stops it by saying, “All right. Let’s stop the arguing. Who’s got something constructive to say?”
