Title: Julius Caesar Author: William Shakespeare Biographical information about the author: William Shakespeare was born in 1564 and passed away in 1616. Although Shakespeare's work has been read by many and still is, Shakespeare was considered a mystery man in his early life before becoming a famous playwrighter. Other notable authors came from prominent families with some sort of fame but Shakespeare was a son of a middle-class family and did not attend a major literature college. Shakespeare's education was said to not have passed grammar school, but no one really knows the beginning life of Shakespeare. This quote matters because it shows Antony's loyalty and how much he looks up to Caesar. “Et tu, Brute—Then fall, Caesar!” (Shakespeare Act 3, Scene 1 78) This is the line Caesar said when Brutus betrayed him and took part in his murder. Caesar questions Brutus saying “you too Brutus?”. This matters because it showed how much trust Caesar had in his and Brutus's friendship, but Brutus was manipulated into throwing that all away. Caesar ended up being hurt before he died physically and mentally. Not that I loved Cæsar less, but that I loved Rome more. (Shakespeare Act 3, Scene 2 21-22) This quote shows that Brutus claims he loved Brutus but loved Rome and the people more. This quote matters because it shows what Brutus' intentions were and showed that he still cared for Brutus. It is important and matters because Brutus tries to justify his actions of what he did to Caesar by saying that he still loved him but Rome more. The setting creates this because some people are happy about the win of the battle and some are not very happy. Also creating the mood of being serious because some were making serious decisions based on the timeline and setting of the play. What is the significance of the opening scene? Caesar is just now coming back to Rome after winning his battle against Pompey. Caesar comes back to open arms of the citizens of Rome celebrating Caesar’s victory, but some do not feel very happy to see him back. The importance of this scene was to show how many supporters Caesar had while also showing the attention that he received from the people.
