“A good leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” -John CMaxwell. In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, we see how conspirators betray a bad leader for their country. Perhaps if a different person was in the position of leadership, this wouldn’t have happened. Marc Antony would be a strong leader because he has two important traits that the audience can see through his words and actions throughout the play. He is fiercely loyal, to his friends, countrymen, leaders, and to Rome. Antony is also a quick leader on the battlefield. Marc Antony was referred to be Caesar's right-hand man early on in the play, or a "mere limb of Caesar," if you will. Many didn't have high hopes for him, but as Caesar passed away, the lion awoke in him. In other words, he initially desired a bloodbath but, in the end, spared those who weren't Brutus. “This is not Brutus, friend; but, I assure you, a prize no less in worth: keep this man safe; Give him all kindness: I had rather have such men my friends than enemies. Go on, and see whether Brutus be alive or dead, and bring us word unto Octavius' tent How everything is chanced.” (V.5.27-54) When one of Brutus's men was discovered by Antony's men acting as Brutus to create a distraction, Antony remarked as such. The quotation demonstrates Antony's competitiveness on the battlefield as well as his respect for his adversaries. He could have slain all of Brutus's soldiers out of pure rage, but he was wise and concentrated on the issue at hand rather than seeking retribution. While showing mercy to the others, he thought Brutus should be executed for his crimes. This demonstrates why Antony would make a good and impartial
