This past winter, in Massachusetts, the state received terrible snow storms. Juno was the biggest storm that occurred there in the winter season of 2014-2015. Massachusetts was declared to be in a state of emergency. The storm closed down schools, shopping centers, businesses, public services and many more places. The storm caused heavy winds at 50-80 mph. The town of Duxbury, which is along the coast, received a lot of damage. There was major flooding and a lot of snow. This was placed because the roads were so bad and drivers would not be able to see due to the snow coming down. While interviewing my friend Camille, she said, “I remember I was outside in the snow and I could barley see the street lights at the end of my road because the snow was so bad”. Piles of snow were so high that it was hard for people to shovel it out. It just kept piling up and it just would not stop. Snow storm “Juno” canceled over a thousand flights. This was not good for the airlines because the airlines were not making any money. I remember talking to my parents and saying “if it snows one more time, we are moving to Florida”. I am sure a lot of people were saying the same exact thing. Boston, Massachusetts breaks snowfall record with 108 inches. There was no more room for the snow to go, to the point where snowplows and workers started putting the snow into “snow farms”. According to the article, This Is the Face of Snow Removal in Boston, “city workers have plowed for a collective 85,000 hours” (Weaver, Alex). This stat shows how hard workers had to work to get rid of all the snow before the next snowfall happen. Around the city of Boston, workers had to start making “snow farms”. Snow farms are open areas where plows get the snow from the streets and move it to the farm. With the amount of snowfall that Boston received and with how little the streets are, the workers had to find a place to put all of the snow to get it out of the way before more came.
