When Justin Trudeau was elected to the position of Prime Minister of Canada during the 2015 election, his means of promoting himself, specifically what he planned to do to better Canada, was taken to a whole new level, to coincide with the current forms of social media that millennials use, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Trudeau has grasped the attention of individuals of all ages, and not just through what his political aims and goals are, but because of his use of various social media platforms and the ways in which he has used them as a way to communicate with Canadians; and in a way, this makes Canadians feel a connection to Trudeau and his family. It’s just more inclusive.” Although there is controversy over this, because on September 21 of 2015, Mr. Trudeau sent out a tweet that said, “I am a feminist. I’m proud to be a feminist #upfordebate” (JustinTrudeau, 2015. Fig 1), Trudeau claims he strives and promotes equality for everyone, and everyone should be treated the same in every circumstance. When he posted this tweet, the comments left on this tweet were rather negative. One of the Twitter users, @TheVDL, replied to Trudeau’s tweet saying “@JustinTrudeau you just lost my wife's vote, picking sides is certainly stupid. Men vs women...Justin just isn’t ready” (@TheVDL, 2015. Fig 2). Majority of the comments that were left in reply to this tweet were questioning Trudeau’s tweet and some were offended. Some brought up the point that Justin Trudeau strives for everyone to be treated equally and everyone is welcome, but he really is not doing much to make that move.
