Dear California state lawmakers I'd like to let you know what I think about juvenile trials in adult prisons. How to take care of the juvenile offenders that commit crimes is one of the main topics right now. For the past couple of years, there have been juveniles put into trials and charged as an adult and they have been thinking it is the correct thing to do. Kids shouldn't be tried as adults because they don't have a fully developed brain. They don't understand their actions, which makes them unable to think properly and do something that can get them into serious trouble. Juveniles should never be tried as adults, since they do not think about what they are doing until it is done. They also don't take into account the consequences of their actions. In the article Should- 11-year-olds be charged with adult crimes Holloway says, “I suggest that except for extraordinary circumstances, no child under the age of at least 17 should be sentenced to lengthy incarceration in adult jails. It is beyond debate that the human does not reach anything close to maturity until the early to mid-20s.'' That's because your brain isn't completely developed as a real adult when you're at that age. Most adults, but not minors, have the capacity for rational thinking. The juveniles should be given a chance to get themselves into rehabilitation and learn from their mistakes. The author JJ Holloway states that, “children do not think about the world around them the way we adults do. They have little if any perspective and they often use poor judgment.” It means that, like adults, children don't think about the outcome before or after they do it. Adults think more before doing it and that is why they are tried how they are. He also believes that for children there is still time for change in rehab but for some adults it's too late for
