Kansas V Dank Kush Over the course of the last five years the U.S. state and federal courts have addressed a growing concern about the legalization of marijuana. The legalization of marijuana has been put into question several times causing numerous politicians to claim different sides to this issue. The 37th president of the United States (Richard M. Nixon) once said “Federal and state laws (should) be changed to no longer make it a crime to possess marijuana for private use.” At this point in time four states have legalized the sale and use of marijuana including Colorado, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon. If Kansas were to legalize marijuana they would see a decrease in those going to jail for the sale and use of this product. The money that Kansas would bring in buy its taxes would create a giant increase of cash inflow, and a decrease in those spending time in prison due to the legality of use would help save the state millions of dollars. Those two reasons alone when paired together put into question why the state government keeps saying “No”. By having it legal for people to buy citizens would be more likely to go to a legal dispensary than to buy from a local drug dealer. This would lead to a decrease in the illegal sales, and decrease of those sent to jail for marijuana related crimes. After going through the battle of not knowing whether my friend was going to live it made me realize that the marijuana needs to be legalized to put an end to users not getting the product they believe that they are getting. I believe Kansas should legalize weed not only for the money but for the safety of those who are using this
