In the article "Don’t blame the eater" written by Zinczenko, he argues that fast food is the main reason why so many teenagers are suffering from obesity in United States. He explains that many companies will use advertisements to deceive customers. For example, a company’s website offers a chicken salad with less than four hundred calories per serving; however, they don’t label everything that the salad has In the first label. They will use separate labels in the products that the salad has on it, so the costumer gets confused and thinks that he is actually eating a four hundred calories salad that is "healthy". However, he is actually eating a seven or more hundred calories meal.

The Cocoanut Grove fire was the second deadliest single-building fire in American history. The Iroquois theater fire in 1902 in Chicago had taken more than 605 lives, with the Cocoanut fire taking 492 lives.
The novel Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick is a story about a typical family in a present day town. Steven, the oldest kid in the family goes through a tough time in his life when his little brother Jeffrey gets leukemia, a type of cancer. Steven’s parents are also affected. The dad starts to not talk to Steven, and his co workers. The mom has to stop working and drive Jeffrey to the hospital often for treatments.
In the short story “Red Cranes”, by Jacey Choy, the author describes Mie as a young girl who has big dreams. Choy describes Mie’s feelings about her father hearing some red cranes and was very upset that her father had not woke her up. In the short story “The Firefly Hunt”, by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki, the author describes Sachiko as a young girl who is determined to accomplish things no matter what it took. Tanizaki describes Sachiko’s excitement about finding fireflies.

On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling was fatally shot by Blane Salamoni, a Baton Rouge police officer, in a convenience store parking lot. Salamoni was responding to a call about a man brandishing a gun and thought that Sterling fit the description of the suspect. However, when Salamoni arrived at the scene, he immediately became violent in his use of force on Sterling. Body camera footage shows Salamoni “slamming him into a car; twice ordering the second officer, Howie Lake II, to use his Taser; and threatening to shoot Mr. Sterling with a gun pointed at his head” (Fausset, 2018). Also shown in the video is Sterling doing his best to follow Salamoni’s orders although he was being pushed around by officers for the duration of the encounter.
In the short story "Kath and Mouse" by Janet McNaughton, the character Kath is most interesting because she is controlling and entitled, yet she is also hard working and careful. Firstly, Kath is directly described as a hardworking person by the author in the short story. This is demonstrated by the following quote: "She really worked at it, forty-five minutes every day. Not that anyone else knew. If anyone phoned while she was practicing, we were supposed to say she was out," (McNaughton 62).
The Power Behind “Just Walk on By” In Brent Staples article “Just Walk on By”, Staples shares his thoughts on the way marginalized groups interact. He uses his own experiences as a young African American man to shed light on how people can have implied biases that affect the way they treat other people. Staples does this to demonstrate how society develops preconceived notions in the minds of individuals about marginalized groups, primarily African American men, which are often a flawed representation of the people within these groups. The rhetoric he uses is key to developing an understanding persona and an emotional appeal that exposes the implied biases of people without alienating or offending the audience, to whom-- among others-- he attributes these biases.
The book Zeitoun by Dave Eggers is not a completely accurate depiction of what happened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The book is an example of propaganda aimed at influencing the reader into viewing the government and police in America as ineffective and ignorant. In Zeitoun, Eggers characterizes all the police and National Guard members in New Orleans after Katrina as very abusive and ignorant. When Zeitoun is arrested the police take his and his friends belongings to examine them.

Nathan McCall was a smart kid growing up in a close protective family in a black working class neighborhood. The book is about Nathan McCall life and the decisions he made.
Many children who grow up in poverty have issues as they grow up. For example, many children who grow up in poverty have parents who care less for them or who grow up not being the proper parental figure, causing the person affected to have issues growing up and having to go through it all alone. Reyna Grande's memoir, 'The Distance Between Us,' describes her journey from poverty to America. Reyna grew up with her mother and father, and the phrase "the other side" also refers to America. Reyna has learned and lost people who were very important to her, revealing their true colors once she was no longer in their company.
El Anatsui is an African contemporary artist, who uses art to expresses the culture of Africa post colonialization. Anatsui uses natural materials such as wood, clay, and discarded bottle caps in his artwork. Many of his pieces reflect the Ghanaian culture, by using inspirations from Kente cloth, a traditional West African cloth made from woven textiles with multiple patterns. He uses his art to take a stand by informing people on the issues that Africa currently faces. Anatsui’s art references many historical events from Africa and around the world.
On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the city of New York. On that fateful day, two airplanes were hijacked by terrorists and flew straight into the twin towers. Each tower fell completely to the ground, taking thousands of lives with it and injuring thousands more. Not only did that day leave thousands of families without their loved ones, it also left an entire city and an entire country to deal with the aftermath of the destruction. Poet, Nancy Mercado, worries that one day people will forget that heartbreaking day.

“Kokoro” is a novel by Japanese author Natsume Soseki, published in 1914. It is the story of the friendship between the narrator, “I” and his honored mystery old man, “Sensei”, which explores man’s nature through Sensei’s confession. As seen in the very first sentence of the story, the narrator always calls the old man, Sensei in respect. The story reveals that Sensei also has a big trust in narrator by sending his testament to “I”(narrator) in the hopes of preventing the narrator from going through what Sensei had gone through.
