The book Zeitoun by Dave Eggers is not a completely accurate depiction of what happened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The book is an example of propaganda aimed at influencing the reader into viewing the government and police in America as ineffective and ignorant.
In Zeitoun, Eggers characterizes all the police and National Guard members in New Orleans after Katrina as very abusive and ignorant. Eggers uses these comments to imply that the United States is not safe for people from the Middle East because they will be racially profiled. Another example of Zeitouns families bias against the United States is when they find out he has been arrested and is not dead. Instead of celebrating like Kathy, his family is very concerned about Zeitoun. His brother tells Kathy, "You have to see him" and his tone makes it seem that he was "almost as worried by Zeitouns incarceration as he had been by his disappearance." (Eggers 272) He is so worried because he thinks he will be racially profiled and put kept in jail because they think he is a
