The idea of communism arose from The Communist Manifesto written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. The Communist Manifesto was a political pamphlet that gave an approach to class struggle and capitalism. The pamphlet soon after became popular across the world. Over a 100 years later, an African-American civil rights leader by the name of Martin Luther King Jr. would read this pamphlet and use similar idea's to achieve his dream of integration and equality. King, a minister, was known for using somewhat communist views in reference to Marx in many of his speeches and letters.

Marx wrote Capital: A Critique of Political Economy, which sharply criticized Smith’s benevolent depictions of capitalism and the Industrial Revolution. Smith and Marx wrote from different vantage points in history but both offered insights into the changing worlds around them.

Karl Marx and Adam Smith are two of the greatest economic analysts the world has ever seen: one being the father of communism, and the other of modern economics. Despite being different in thought, it was both of their ideas that created the fundamental bases of economics. As the father of communism, Karl Marx's economic model is based on government ownership of the economic wealth and its equal distribution in the society. However due to major flaws in his thinking, his theories have failed to be adopted. He analysed the history of those not associated with politics or wealth, the Class, play a more important role in history. The class struggle of the ordinary people is the real history to be documented and discussed. As discussed in the lecture, the histories of kings, queens, politicians or other high ranking officials are not the only histories, but are irrelevant compared to this history of the class struggle. To discover the true events of history we, as historians, must investigate the histories of all those involved in the past.

However, soon after Marx and Engel’s other writings on socialism became published it grew in popularity, and was considered a standard text of the time (Brians, 2006). With Marx’s radical ideas, and Engels’ thorough writing, they were able to convey how they were individual of the other socialists of the time and elaborate on their idea socialism and how it would inevitably be achieved. The three main ideas from The Communist Manifesto are class conflict, ephemeral capitalism, and inevitable revolution.

Karl Marx was a German philosopher and economist in the 18th century. He is known for his book the Communist Manifesto that was published in 1848. Marx believed that a revolution of the working classes would over throw the capitalist order and creates a classless society. The Industrial Revolutions led to the proletarianization; his partner Friedrich Engels explained why the changes created by the proletarianization of the worker would develop into a huge problem for industrial societies. I do believe that Karl Marx’s vision of communism in the Communist Manifesto could re-emerge as a popular and workable philosophy of social, economic, and political organization.
