Karl Marx is widely known as one of the most influential philosophers of the 19thCentury because of his many published works that showed the struggles of this period and how they could be fixed. His ability to collaborate with other philosophers of his time and take in their ideals, while maintaining his core ideals allowed him to create some of the most wholly comprised works of that era. Marx was born on May 5, 1818 in the Rhine Province of Prussia, his father, Heinrich Marx, was a lawyer and an enlightenment man who believed in change for the better of society. They began to collaborate and share their ideas and opinions on topics, which led to the creation of great works. Their like-mindedness led to many discussions and stories, one experience Engels spoke to Marx about was Engels own realization that the industrialization, although great, was causing as much harm as good. He spoke of his father’s textile factory where he got to experience the despair of the workers first hand. Marx continued to further develop his views on social reform in Brussels, and over time he came to the conclusion that change was needed, but steps needed to take place. Marx knew that a society could not just jump right into communism, and he knew that some aspects of the current governing style were appropriate. Marx and Engels knew that the focus needed to be on the poor aspects of life that did not promote a healthy and prosperous society. In 1847 Marx and Engels were approached by a group of men who wanted to create a political program that promoted the use of communism. Marx and Engels were hesitant to join, but overcame their fears and joined the Communist League. Once in the league, Marx and Engels were tasked with creating the program and a constitution that represented the group as a whole. This led to the creation of one of the most influential political writing of all time commonly known as The Communist Manifesto. The manifesto composed by Marx and Engels was a compilation of philosophies meant to explain the problems of society and how communism would fix them. The main point made by Marx and Engels is that class struggles are what has caused the downfall of all societies in history. Marx realized that the bourgeoisie and proletariat classes of the mid-nineteenth century would end up at war within some amount of time due to the nature of the industrial revolution.
