Kate Chopin’s ‘‘The Story of An Hour’’, tells the story of a woman named Mrs. Mallard, who has recently been told that her husband has passed away in a train accident. She is absolutely shattered and weeps, she goes to her bedroom to be isolated from everyone else at the time being. While in her bedroom, Mrs. Mallard begins to feel this overwhelming thought of being free, she is still upset about her husband’s death; however she also appears to feel enthusiastic about something else. A key theme in Chopin’s story is freedom, as Mrs. Mallard’s perspective of life changes throughout. Chopin also uses the setting of the story to further demonstrate freedom.
