Katniss As A Symbol Of Hope In The Hunger Games

In the Hunger Games Trilogy, Katniss Everdeen is a figurine of victory to the people of the oppressed districts across Panem. Her symbol of the rebellion is the Mocking Jay, which is recognized as a sign of power and strength, that gives enough courage for the districts to revolt against the foreboding Capitol. While Katniss does indeed take part in the fight against the Capitol, she is much more then just another warrior to her people. Katniss is a figurehead of the power of hope, which is an incredibly powerful force which can be harnessed to achieve major goals. Hope binds people together, and is the light in times of great darkness, which is very common in Panem. Nike is a symbol of hope in Greek Mythology, much like Katniss is a symbol of hope in the Hunger Games universe. If Katniss was Nike in a scenario, it would further prove the arguments in the story that she is a universally recognized figure of victory. Katniss, like Nike, encourages her people to rise up and fight, and constantly present and active on the battlefront. While other Greek Gods and Goddesses remain cold and distant towards human affairs, Nike is said to have been present on Earth, and actually cared about humankind, echoing Katniss’s love for her district. If Katniss was Nike, it would further solidify her mission to be the spark that ignited the rebellion, and fulfill her purpose as that Greek Goddess. An important point in the Hunger Games is that Katniss is not supposed to be the “damsel in distress” but a powerful woman who doesn’t need a man to come and save her, sometimes saving men herself. It’s a crucial aspect of the character, and nobody would be able to fit her as well as
