Kayak Kafé: A locally owned gem The locally famed restaurant Kayak Kafé is among the elite few in Savannah to receive a handful of notable rewards. To share a few, The Savannah Now magazine voted Kayak Kafé as Best Vegetarian Restaurant in 2014. Connect Savannah awarded Kayak Kafé for Best Vegetarian Salad. Savannah magazine also rated Kayak Kafé for Best Salad and Savannah Now rated Kayak Kafé for “Best Healthy Option”. The New American vegetarian influenced Tex-mex hybrid restaurant Kayak Kafé is one of a kind. In my experience, I went to Kayak Kafé twice and both times I was recommended by the waitress a meal off of the “Signature meals” menu. The first time I went I ordered the Roasted Lime Chicken Tacos. They were incredible, I have never had such a satisfying experience while eating tacos. The tacos were tightly wrapped and filled with gooey melted jack cheese, and perfectly roasted bites of chicken. The tacos were also served with a tossed and organic salad which was of notable quality. There have been very few times in my life where I have eaten something and thought, “Wow! I feel really healthy and good while eating this.” Both times I visited Kayak Kafé I felt the same way. (move to bottom?) The second time I visited I ordered the Lime Chicken & Goat Cheese Enchiladas which was from the “Signature meals” on the menu. The enchiladas were even better than the tacos in my opinion they had a slight spiciness to them and a mouthwatering assortment of caramelized onions, and organic greens that are tossed in cilantro-lime vinaigrette. The Enchiladas were also surmounted with avocado crema salsa and melted monterey jack cheese. The way that the chef’s had delicately placed the zest on the enchiladas was awe inspiring. It reminded me of ratatouille and how each vegetable is carefully placed. Just thinking about the meals makes me want to go back. ( new paragraph?) In addition, to the enchiladas, the salad was incredible. After all, Kayak Kafé’s salads have won multiple awards. Now I’m not a vegetarian but eating these salads tempted me to convert into a vegan. The way the salads were tossed and slightly steamed blew me away. I feel like I’ve never eaten a good salad before. It really hit the spot. The leaves were a rich organic green.
