Although Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 preceded The Wachowskis’ The Matrix by almost half a century, they share many themes -- both overt, and covert. In Fahrenheit 451, the protagonist Montag goes through three phases of life: being oblivious to the dystopia, being in conflict about it, and resolving to be liberated from it. Montag’s ‘awakening’ was caused by his own curiosity and internal dissatisfaction with his life and the world he lived in. However, the actions that he took seemed to be completely subconscious, and not planned. In comparison, in the Wachowskis’ The Matrix, the protagonist Neo made the conscious decision to take the red pill, which represented his desire to learn the truth about the world.
In President Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address,” he effectively uses juxtaposition to make an emotional appeal so that his audience would feel a sense of remorse. In the second paragraph, Lincoln contrasts the deaths of the soldiers to a nation that might live. For example, he states that the field was “... a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.” Lincoln is saying that the soldiers fought a war so that the nation would have a chance of unifying. By using juxtaposition, Lincoln wants to evoke a sense of guilt in the audience because the soldiers gallantly fought a war just so the rest of the nation can experience the freedom and equality that they had hoped for.
Within Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451, there are many ways to view the world. Imagine a place where technology has taken over society. The location is based on technology and robots that control everything. The word robot has a deeper meaning and came from the Czech word “robota”, meaning forced labor or work. Fahrenheit 451 is similar since they base their lives around a virtual family and burning books.
Machines will take over all of our little daily tasks that we do. The rate at which technology is growing and developing, and how more and more people are getting sucked into the internet and their phones or other devices, I wouldn’t be surprised if what happens in the fake reality of The Veldt would actually become a reality for all of
Each time I watch Gladiator, which I have seen countless times, I always feel like it is the first time. I still feel the intensity of each scene as if I had not seen it before. The actor Russel Crowe (A Beautiful Mind, Noah) who played the protagonist, the Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius, fits perfectly for the role. His voice, eyes, physique, and his total package, perfected
In this narrative, two movies, Blade Runner (1982) and Brave New World (1980) are analyzed on their postmodernist aspects. Both are dystopic films that predict humanity’s future from the circumstantial fears present on their times. The movie Blade Runner by Ridley Scott was a dystopian film set in the city of Los Angeles in 2019 and was actually derived from the book of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Mr. Phillip Dick. In the film, nuclear pollution and atomic waste aftermath pushed the citizens to go off world.
In the film “The Matrix” the control was technological. “The computers transfer Neo in the real world and the machines controlled the humans in
Prior to this statement the author discusses about how American workers are struggling to keep up with robots, as robots are growing smarter. According to the author, Miller says that people are making machines that are mimicking the human mind, and it’s allowing machines to do our jobs for us; jobs like factory, clerical work, and manufacturing. Miller discusses about her biggest fear being that the amount of technology we humans are creating can injure this world. It can affect our responsibilities, and it may get to the point that machines can take over. Miller also suggests that we should maintain our future by not allowing a higher force, such as machines, to take over; but by simply not to envisage machines that act like humans.
His films often explore topics of race, gender, identity, and social justice as well as his distinctive film style
In this project, it was asked for students to create a visual art project symbolizing dystopian elements in both the novel 1984 and the movie the Matrix. Both share similar aspects in a dystopian society, such as the dangers of an absolute totalitarian government and the power the government has over the individual. In the novel 1984, the story follows Winston through his struggles of fitting into society. Winston wants to rebel against the government, Big Brother, however he knows that he is unable to do so by himself. Winston then meets Julia, and they engaged in frequent intimate activities as there way to rebel.
In the by novel George Orwell, 1984, the author reveals to the reader a theme. The book teaches us about the world we live in today by trusting technology can also harm us in the future by letting it become powerful and letting it become part of the society. When Winston the main protagonist in the novel, states “The instruments (the telescreen), it was called could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely” (2), the reader understands that humans can be using technology to help or to harm the society. In today’s world there has been situations
The idea of creating an artificial intelligence is becoming ever more popular in our society. Featured in movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, and Ex Machina, many present artificial intelligence as mysterious entities that are dangerous to society as a whole. As the technology that humanity has at its disposal continues to improve, many fear that the threat artificial intelligence presents in these movies will become a reality. Even Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX said that artificial intelligence presents a “fundamental existential risk for human civilization” (Sullyman).

The film takes place in the late 90’s where Neo, the protagonist is a computer programmer that works for one of the top companies in the world. However throughout his life, he has always believed that the world he lived in wasn’t quite right. He eventually meets the Rebels, who confirm that nothing is what it seems. The film than unfolds a truth that the people (within the film) are meant to believe that they are living in a calm, beautiful utopia, a paradise where everyone is going about their daily lives. Nonetheless, in reality their lives are nothing but an illusion: a stimulated reality created by machines in order to use humans an energy source.
The message that too much technology is not good for people is the main theme of the story. Both the children and the parents experience effects from using the machines to do everything for them. Also, the children are so spoiled from unlimited technology that they can’t live without
