The Australian War Memorial is one aspect that helps to keep the ANZAC Spirit alive in Australia’s current society. It first started keeping the spirit of the “aussie diggers” alive when Charles Bean, official war historian of Australia, after return from Gallipoli. He wanted to create an area for all the soldiers that fought alongside him at Gallipoli to be remembered. He persevered in making it possible and eventually received what he desired, an Australian War Memorial. The Australian war Memorial still stands today and remembers all of the ANZAC soldiers for their sacrifice to our country. Today the Australian War Memorial keeps the ANZAC Spirit alive by educating people about the ANZAC Legend and the involvement that Australia has had with war. …show more content…

In 2014, over 920 000 people visited the Australian War Memorial. These people are all contributing to the growth of the ANZAC Spirit. This proves that great amounts of people are increasing their knowledge of the ANZAC Spirit and Australia’s relationship to war through the Australian War Memorial. The director of the Australian War Memorial, Brendan Nelson, was quoted in saying “The Australian War Memorial reminds us that in the end there are some truths by which we live that are worth fighting to defend”. This quote shows that the Australian War Memorial is something that reminds us of the sacrifices made by the ANZACs and that they fought to protect something that was worth defending, Australia and its population. Therefore the Australian War Memorial keeps the ANZAC Spirit flourishing in our society
