The year 1776 marked the beginning of a new era; a once-dependent zone was industrializing and freeing itself of foreign rule. This emerging core zone was known as America. America’s freedom was granted during their long-fought battle against the British army, thus, establishing a nation of freedom and unity. Throughout its years of emergence, America’s success and unity was placed into the hands of several influential rulers, such as: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and many more. As the election proceeded, people feared another economic collapse; they saw a downspiraling economy that could possibly hurt them financially if nothing was done to stop it. Therefore, the voters of 2008 determined that “Obama was far more successful than John McCain in convincing voters that he was better able to handle the economic crisis” (Why Obama Won). He used the internet to appeal to his audience’s taste and expand his campaign; “for Mr. Kennedy, it was television. For Mr. Obama, it is the Internet” (Miller). Obama abled himself to open his campaign and structure events with just the click of a button. By campaigning over the internet, he ensured that people were seeing his goals and visions for the future. By using the television to capture his campaign, Kennedy became seen as the family man, a man who understood people and saw what greatness could come of America. President Kennedy was the “most fit” man for the job due to his adaptivity to modern technologies and his historical knowledge of the country. He knew how to run a country, and he knew how to run it well. All of this was shown by his use of the television, just as this is shown through Obama’s use of the internet. The use of technology portrayed Obama as a man of future intentions; he wanted to impact the future of America, not the past of America. He was everything they never had; black, internet-friendly, and strategic. These qualities painted him to be a man of the future.
