Canada should not allow The Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline to go through as it poses to many environmental and ecological risks. Pristine areas across central and northern BC, including the Great Bear Rainforest, are under threat if the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline is put into service. In the end, the concerns over the BC pipeline outweigh the possible benefits the pipeline may result in. The Canadian oil and gas company Enbridge, proposed the Northern Gateway project as a solution to transport 525,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

For my research paper this fall I will be talking about Senator Jon Tester's voting habits on the Keystone XL Pipeline. The Keystone XL Pipeline was a bill passed by the Senate by a vote of 62 to 36. This bill would allow the oil to be ship from Alberta to Illinois and then to Texas to be refined and sold. Jon Tester was one of the sixty-two members who supported the Keystone Pipeline because of its benefit on Montana's jobs and economy. However, Jon Tester has also spoken about how Montana and the United States needs to work towards cleaner energy alternatives.
Last month, Metlakatla First Nation signed agreement with TransCanada Corporation on the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project. This agreement is a great achievement. Metlakatla First Nation always has a significant interest in the Skeena estuary, and some believe that the pipeline project may harm the salmon habitat in the area. Metlakatla announces that they believe TransCanada will work diligently to ensure their way of life and environment. It shows trust and acts as an indicator of how important it is for a company to incorporate First Nation's input on environment and culture.
In my opinion I am against the pipeline. The negative effects out way the positives of the pipeline. To begin with, there isn't a real need for the pipeline, so why spend billions of dollars on a pipeline that isn't needed. The cost of the pipeline is extremely high whereas the pipeline might not actually be worth that much to the residents here. There would be taxes and fees that the residents and the business owners would have to pay to pay for the pipeline that could be avoided.
Two main political issues today are the economy and the environment, a recent topic that involves these issues is the decision or lack thereof to go through with the Keystone pipeline XL. The pipeline stretches from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, via Texas and can provide immediate jobs and oil economic stimulation as well as economic stimulation for future generations. The problem is that while this project can mean a brighter future economically, it can also mean a darker future environmentally. Despite the possible environmental risks, the keystone pipeline XL project needs to be approved as it can provide energy security and a major economical stimulation for this generation and the next.
In recent years in can be noted that civil disobedience is prominent in American culture. This can be portrayed in the recent events of the Keystone Pipeline activists. Many activists have blamed the government for their problems just as Thoreau did in his essay “Civil Disobedience”. There can be a parallel drawn between these two topics even though they have decades between them. In these times it is still logical to believe that civil disobedience is the right course of action.
I am very satisfied with Canada’s decision on joining the TPP(Trans-Pacific Partnership) with 11 other countries. This would create a free-trade environment among the countries around the Pacific. The partnership from the Government of Canada and the eleven nations will help strengthen Canada’s economy. This partnership is also essential because it will deepen the economic ties, cut the tariffs on goods, and will increase the trade growth, therefore, solidifying the economy. This must be done as soon as possible.

Attorney General, I am writing on the behalf of the Sioux Nation's stand against the pipeline that threatens their land, water, health, and future. Although their stand is a way to advocate for their rights laid out int the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man (1948) and should be supported, the primary reason I write are as follows: 1)Pipeline action violate the 1868 treaty that the U.S. has made with the Sioux Nation 2) Militarized tactics (rubber bullets, etc.) used against the nation's people for standing for looking after their health and the ecology of the land is attrocious. 3) There is a comonent of the above said actions that seem to violate the Sioux peoples' Freedom of Religion. TAPS transports 17% of the United State’s domestic petroleum. If the pipeline were to stop, “A loss of that production would increase prices by at least 10 to 16 percent” (Balan). This is very important, as the majority of the American population is in constant need of these resources. A shift this dramatic in the economy would lead to outrage and possible changes in economic inflation. All in all, the Trans Alaska pipeline has provided for a great number of people and has not failed to let them down.
