After the agreement was made between the United state and the Soviet and the United States assured not to attack or plot to overtake Cuba, The Soviet Union removed they missiles.
As stated by Betancourt, Khrushchev involvement in the Cuban missile crisis was a great risk to the Soviets and he suffer the shame of withdrawing his vessel carrying the nuclear missiles. He also states that Castro request was unreasonable and irresponsible in asking the Soviets for assistance since the request could have caused a nuclear war (Betancourt).
