What is the best way to teach students to be successful? In Kids Need Structure by Colin Powell and in Dr. Montessori’s Own Handbook by Maria Montessori, they both talk about how they think students should be taught and have very different opinions. It is seen through these texts that Powell and Montessori both want the children to have a guide and for their children to have structure, so that they will be successful throughout their lives. In the texts, Kids Need Structure by Colin Powell and Dr. Montessori’s Own Handbook by Maria Montessori they share how the students should have structure and how they should respect their teachers. For example, Powell feels that a child should behave like a soldier by stating that they should “stand at attention like a soldier” (Powell line 12). Montessori’s Own Handbook by Maria Montessori they both show what they want to do and they want students to have guidance or structure. Powell states that he is willing to help a child become a better student when he says “ I want to talk about young people and structure”(Powell lines 1). Powell uses the word structure to show how he wants the kids. Along with this, Powell shows he wants the students to have structure throughout life and have good standards. Montessori states that she wants teachers not to be only teachers but also guides by saying “ It is necessary for the teacher to guide the child”(Montessori lines 2-3). Montessori uses the word guide to show how she wants the students. Additionally, this shows that she wants the students to have a guide that way they know how to act in life. In conclusion, Powell and Montessori both want their students to succeed in life and know the knowledge, but in different
