According to the PBS Frontline video “Poor Kids” 2012, more than 46 million Americans are living beneath the poverty line. The United States alone has one of the highest rates of child poverty in the industrialized world. It is stated that 1 out of 5 children are living in poverty. The video documented the lives of three families who are faced with extreme hardships and are battling to survive a life of being poor. All three families have more than one child and could barely afford to pay their bills and purchase food for their household.
Another reason that they are different is because William bullied Margot with a lot of people and Grant bullied Lucy by himself. The reason that this makes them different is because Grant has a different interpretation on bullying. When Grant decides to bully Lucy he says:“Hey, rocktalker! What does this rock say?”(Baum.3). I feel connected to Margot, the protagonist in the story "All Summer in a Day", because we both feel isolated from our classmates because of our origins, showing where you come from can affect how people view you. For example, as the other children in the class room edges away from her, Bradbury explains that "She had only come here five years ago from Earth” (2). Margot was born on a whole different planet than the other kids, showing how her origins are different than those of her peers. At the beginning of the story, Margot, the protagonist, feels excited because she thinks she will see the sun, which she hasn’t seen in seven years. Because the school children “don’t believe her”, they lock her in a closet. Soon after that, the sun comes out so the children play around outside, but they forget that Margot is still in the closest. After the sun disapears, they remember about Margot and they let her out.

The difference between any of us is circumstances that we as “kids” are out of our control. Death of a family member, loss of job, physical disability, the list goes on and on. It could happen to any parent, any family, any student. In the United States there is no reason for any one to go hungry. There is no reason for a students only meals to be those eaten within these walls, to go home at night knowing there is no dinner, going home on Friday knowing there won’t be anything until they come back to school on Monday.
