“Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone in this world.” - Raktivist. This quote perfectly describes the film Wonder and the kindness displayed throughout the film. This film is mainly about a boy named Auggie Pullman who has a facial deformity called Treacher Collins syndrome. He was homeschooled until the fifth grade, when his mother enrolled him in Beecher Prep and decided it was time for him to try going to school. First and foremost, the fact that Jack Will was the only student who was kind to Auggie exemplifies how the film changed from beginning to end. At the beginning of the film, everyone was unkind to Auggie and avoided him, leaving him alone and with no one to accept him for his appearance other than his family. Despite their facial differences, Jack was friendly and kind to Auggie. He never made fun of Auggie or said anything derogatory about his appearance. As the movie progresses, many students start to be kind to Auggie which started with Jack. This example is far more exceptional than others in demonstrating the theme of kindness. The story changed when he began to ignore Auggie's appearance and made an extra effort to show affection and care. Moving on, the next plot is when Amos, Miles, and Henry fought the bullies who were bullying Auggie and Jack, demonstrating kindness. Amos, Miles, and Henry were bullies who were cruel to Auggie when he first started school. However, as the film progressed, Amos, Miles, and Henry's attitudes began to shift. When Auggie and Jack were bullied by seventh grade students on the field trip, the three kids decided to stand up for them. Amos and his friends decided to be upstanders to bullies rather than bullies themselves. This clearly demonstrates the theme because the three unkind kids changed and were the ones who showed kindness. To …show more content…
The film's first conflict occurs when Jack Will decides whether to be kind to Auggie or stay with Julian. When Auggie started attending Beecher Prep, Jack Will had to make a choice. Julian was cruel to Auggie and said hurtful things to him. Jack wanted to be nice to the new student, but he also didn't want Julian to make fun of him. As a result, he had to make a decision. Be nice to Auggie or you'll be mocked. Nonetheless, Jack chose to be kind and befriend him. This demonstrates the theme because, rather than being mocked, Jack went out of his way to be kind and nice to Auggie. Furthermore, the next example that displays the theme is when Jack and Julian get into a fight. When Jack started to befriend Auggie, Julian started to make fun of Jack. He mentioned sensitive topics about Auggie such as his face. Finally, Jack had enough, and when he and Julian were talking together, Julian asked why he spent so much time with Auggie. Jack became enraged and punched Julian. He wanted him to stop being mean to his new friend, so he decided to defend him. Jack did not want Auggie to be unhappy or hurt, so he stood up for him from Julian. This demonstrates kindness because Jack wanted to defend Auggie and be kind to him rather than bully
