The Reign Of the Kings The bible chapters I was assigned was Kings 1 and Kings 2. The book I got is from the historical book section of the Bible. Kings 1 is about how King David grows old and appoints his son Prince Solomon the new King of Israel. King David dies after appointing his son Solomon the King. King David tells the new King to fulfill the promises he tells them. King Solomon fulfills these task. When King Solomon grows old he builds many temples and worships many gods not just the one true God. The girl’s name was Abishag the Shunammite. After this price name “Adonijah son of Haggith exalted himself saying ‘I will be king’ ” (1 Kings 1:5). He started to prepare animals that were going to be sacrificed to the Lord and for the feast he was going to have. He invited Joab the son of Zeruiah and the priest Abiathar these are the people who supported Adonijah. King David hears word of this from his wife Bathsheba who who she hears it from the prophet Nathan. Bathsheba goes to King David to tell him this and she is worried that if Abishag becomes king she will be persecuted along with her son Solomon. King David assures his wife Bathsheba that their son Solomon will be his heir. “Your son Solomon shall succeed me as king, and he shall sit on my throne in my place” (1 Kings 1:30). The city hears the trumpet and erupts into chaos yelling “Long live King Solomon” (1 Kings 1:34) Joab the son of Zeruiah the priest Abiathar and Abishag hear this uproar and they all go their separate ways in fear of the new king. Before King David died he was giving the new King promises that he needed to fulfill. Adonijah comes to the palace to talk to Bathsheba to try to convince her to talk to King Solomon so that Adonijah can have Abishag as his wife. When Bathsheba asked King Solomon this he was enraged. He did not grant her this wish. King Solomon starts fulfilling his promises that David asked him to Fulfill. He banished the priest that sided with Adonijah and dismissed him of his duties. He killed Joab, and told Shimei to build himself a house and that he can never leave Israel that if he did he would be killed. Of course he did not obey and chased two of his slaves that escaped. King Solomon heard this and went to kill him. King Solomon appointed all the people that supported him as officials and he also appointed twelve governors over the 12 tribes of Israel.
