In the story two Mandarins were competing against each other using different symbols, both with a sense of infallibility. The two Mandarins used symbols to resemble who’s wall was the strongest. As the battle continued, people grew sick and even reached their imminent death. There are many symbols that life is full of, as mentioned in this quote.
