In 2001, Rahim Khan, Baba’s friend, calls Amir to come to Peshawar and explains that Hassan’s son was still alive, which makes Amir realize that the only way to break out of the torment and redeem himself to Hassan was to acknowledge what happened in the alleyway and fix his mistakes, “There is a way to be good again, he'd said. A way to end the cycle. With a little boy. An orphan. Hassan's son. Somewhere in Kabul.” (198). This is a strong example of redemption because Amir goes through guilt and later has a realization to change and be good. He took his guilt and faced it head on by later being punished by Assef attacking him. He risked his life to be in Afghanistan to find Sohrab for Hassan to be good again. Even though Amir could never apologize to Hassan, it is inferred that Hassan forgave him, "[Hassan] used to say it's wrong to hurt even bad people. Because
