Kroger Company has an extensive history, they were the first grocery chain to eliminate the middleman from store to customer, producing its own quality goods and services. Barney Kroger, founder of the Great Western Tea Company which is known as the Kroger’s Company today had invested $372 of his own capital in 1883. The Company was the first grocery chain to produce and bake its own bread products for sale, and include meat departments within their grocery establishments, which led the company to acquire the Nagel Meat Markets and Packing House in 1904.
