7 December 2014 The Ku Klux Klan:Americas Worst Nightmare
In the world we are today, the KKK is almost unspoken of. In the 1930’s, What made this group so bad that speaking its name is almost taboo? The KKK has left a legacy of hate and will not be forgotten for a long time to come no matter how much many might want to. The unthinkable prejudice that the Africans faced is expressed indirectly into Lee’s TKAM, and a basic understanding will be given.
I. The KKK of the ages, known as the Ku Klux Klan, meaning “circle circle”, was an aggressive radical southern force that targeted and persecuted blacks.(Britannica 1) The first time it was formed was in the 1860’s, disappeared in the 1870’s, and came back during TKAM’s period. Through the short period of time that it was present, it was the menace and terror of society.(History 1) Lynching Blacks became a favorite pastime. The revived KKK was aimed at disapproving and intimidating minorities or people that they did not like. The daily lynchings and rallies were hard for blacks to make a living. They especially targeted black prosperity, often destroying the entire household,before sliding back into the shadows(KKK traditions)

The southern prejudice was inspired by the increased KKK activity in the 20th century, resulting in a nearly unbreakable wall of white supremacy beliefs.
