ABSTRACT An ophthalmologist performs variety of surgeries but in particular is very known which is LASIK. This surgery is very high in demand in the United States due to its effectiveness to correct a person’s vision. Although wen the surgery doesn’t go as well as it was plan it can affect a patient’s vision in long term. Certain cases the doctor makes a mistake and avoids telling the patient, they don’t provide the right checkups before the surgery, or unintentionally something goes wrong that isn’t controllable by surgeon. Doctors have to show professionalism and make decision taking their knowledge in consideration. The way they think and act is based on their ethics and education. Its known that doctor’s moral obligation is to serve its community and patients with a proper practice, confidentially, diagnose and address any issue. In the medical field the way of thinking is very rational, meaning they put their reasoning and test of knowledge when its decision making. The theory is that if doctor’s morals reflects as well on their reasoning. A philosopher that fits rationalism is Immanuel Kant. Through his writings, he expressed how us as human can observe our own morality by our everyday actions. Nowadays, we have become selfish and arrogant that every action has a benefit for our own. Society has developed some kind of ideal where money and being the best is what matters instead of choosing what’s best for not only ourselves but others. As Kant says that if we do it with the good intention its when the good has been done. One of Kant’s ethical theory is a moral theory, from choosing right or wrong of the human actions doesn’t depend on the consequences but on how they realize that duty. In Kant’s beliefs, he thought that there was a ultimate principles of morality which he has it known as the “The Categorical Imperative”. Surgery is procedure that doesn’t guarantee the 100% effectiveness and something can go wrong. Although it isn’t ethically right for the doctor to avoid saying what went wrong throughout the surgery. Dr.Chang kept its mistake under covered but never had intention of affecting the patients vision. In this case it wasn’t morally wrong because Dr.Chang wanted to improve the patients vision but due to a mistake it caused a bad consequence affecting the patient’s life in a long term. We as well have to understand that as a doctor you should always look up for the patients care rather than its self-interest. Doctor’s should always work with morals and for the improvement of health on the
