Lubbock Christian University is a private Christian higher education institution. LCU comes from a Church of Christ background and implements their beliefs. The LCU mission statement is “Lubbock Christian University is a Christ-centered, academic community of learners, transforming the hearts, minds, and hands of students for lives of purpose and service.” They have a very strong mission that is lived out daily at the university. As a student at LCU I am able to see day to day procedures and actions. They really live out the Christ centered part of the mission. Everywhere I look as a student at LCU I see Christ. They are not known for being the most prestigious Christian college in our region they are usually overlooked by schools such as Abilene Christian University, and other larger institutes. Lubbock Christian just recently merged with Covenant Health with their nursing program and this merger has put LCU on the map in the nursing field. I believe LCU has three major competitors: Texas Tech University, other NCAA division 2 colleges, and small Christian colleges and universities. Lubbock is a small West Texas town that is starting to grow rapidly. I believe LCU can grow along with Lubbock but in order for this to happen they must take market share from Texas Tech University. Tech has always been a leading share in Lubbock and it always will be. Texas Tech had a fall enrollment of 30,737 in the Fall of 2017. Lubbock Christian University had a fall enrollment of approximately 1,500 undergraduate students. Obviously TTU will always be a significantly larger University than LCU and that is one of the reasons why I love LCU so much! Small classes are one of the greatest selling points LCU has to offer, they can also be more involved in students’ lives because of the small numbers. Assuming there are 500 graduates per high school in Lubbock ISD there will be about 2,500 students graduating and enrolling in colleges. If LCU can focus on gaining 5% of these graduates per year this will be huge for the
