Logan Fishman LSP 200 03/10/2023 Reflective Essay After going through this course and its content, I have learned an immense amount of information about the multiculturalism of America and I am very appreciative of it. Throughout my academic education, the information I have been taught regarding early American people has been limited, however, this course has fully opened my eyes to the history. The way in which this course has set up the learning format of the three early American peoples and their experiences has allowed me to get a clearer grasp of the different disparities that are present today. For example, throughout this course, we have learned first-hand accounts of the different European relationships with the Native Americans. European groups like the Spanish, English, French, and Dutch entered the new world with their own cultural ideologies, norms, and religions. When each European group arrived, the stark differences between the ways the Native Americans lived and the cultures they built were enough to spoil relationships. The Europeans and the Native Americans looked at each other through their own cultural lens, which impacted the way they interacted. As someone who is majoring in Communications, the way in which my studies complemented the information in this course made me realize how a cultural lens impacts America today. America is considered the “melting pot” as people from different cultures and countries reside here, yet there are still instances of racism, discrimination, and white supremacy.
