An abstract is an one-hundred to two-hundred word summary of the information that the writer(s) have collected from the purpose, method, and discussion of the report. Abstracts are meant to briefly introduce readers of a report to what follows. If an abstract is included, the introduction, also referred to as the purpose of the report, comes next. An introduction is used in a lab report to inform the readers of the reasoning behind the study. In this specific lab report, the purpose was for individuals to teach themselves to increase their skin temperature and lessen the tension of their muscles with the use of biofeedback training. Thomas informs the audience that her research was inspired by a previous study conducted by two people in 1979. Underneath the methods section of her report, Thomas mentioned that she used seven subjects, both men and women, an apple microlab system, surgical tape, rubbing alcohol, conducting gel, wire, electrode collars, and a chair. She then gave a detailed description of the steps she used in order to conduct the research on her subjects in both trials. In her results, the found that in both trials the individuals were able to increase the temperature of their skin, while also decreasing the tension in a muscle which covers part of their skulls. While a majority of the subjects experienced similar effects from the study, the seventh subject’s average skin temperature was less than the baseline value and their muscle tension was more than the baseline value. Based on her results, Thomas discussed that the differences of subject seven from the rest of the subjects were likely a factor of external stress and overall the data that she collected verified the previous work of Miller and his assistant from

Coli and that looked into answering whether it was better to have a low or high mutation rate and under what conditions. In our experiment, we looked into what concentration can the E938 strain coexist with the E939 strain in an equal number of colonies. We plated various concentration of the strains (Figure 1) and predicted that the disparity between the growth of each strain will be greater as the concentration of the high mutator increases. Our results did not support this hypothesis, instead it showed that the E938 dominated competition at all concentrations that could be analyzed (Plates D, E & G).
