Nick Hios English Essay "Looking for Alaska" by John Green is a novel that explores the journey of a group of teenagers at Culver Creek high school in Alabama as they find their way through the challenges of high school. One of the key symbols in the book is the labyrinth, which is significant in several ways. The labyrinth is essentially a Maze is this life. I truly believe that we need to go through some sort of “labyrinth of suffering” that causes us to reflect and improve ourselves as members of society. It is important for us to always see the good in tough situations especially when losing a loved one. David Goggins, a highly commendable navy seal and motivational speaker preaches the fact that everybody should seek some sort of suffering or discomfort because it brings out the best in you. He says “Seek out pain, fall in love with suffering. So I sought out pain, fell in love with suffering, and eventually transformed myself from the weakest piece of shit on the planet into the hardest man God ever created, or so I tell myself.” Goggins is living proof that suffering will unlock new potential that one might never know they had. So, although this experience for the teens might have been traumatic, they can use this to work on and shape themselves just like David Goggins has
